The Global StartupCities Initiative, inaugurated in 2018, focuses on bridging innovation ecosystems beyond major hubs to spur economic growth by linking startups, investors, and corporations across Europe. Emphasizing a person-centered approach, it recognizes entrepreneurs and innovators as pivotal economic drivers.
Since 2020, this initiative has expanded globally under the European innovation Area, serving as a catalyst to enhance European business opportunities worldwide.
The pinnacle of this initiative is the annual Global StartupCities Summit, also known as the Unique Summit, which, starting from 2024, aims to rotate across different continents, adapting to a post-pandemic world.

Startups & Ecosystem builders in their first three years of operation are eligible to apply.
Is there a an application fee?
No, there is no fee to apply for the awards.
What is required in the application?
Applicants need to provide detailed information about their business, including innovation, growth strategies, and impact.
What do winners receive?
Winners gain global recognition, feedback from a panel of expert judges, and a tailored resources. Winners will also recieve two free full access tickets to the Unique Summit Event in Cape Town, if they cannot attend they may provide a video to the Unique Summit of their acceptance speech.
How are the winners chosen?
A panel of judges evaluates the applications based on criteria such as innovation, growth, and impact.
